Profiling report on gender and social inclusion in Zambia

This report highlights gender inequalities and social exclusion challenges while outlining inclusive strategies for community resilience in Kafue District, Zambia.

Summary

This report presents the findings of a social profiling study conducted by the Women’s Life and Wellness Foundation (WLWF) in Kafue District, Zambia. The study examined gender dynamics, economic activities, and social inclusion across Shimabala, Lukolongo, and Kapongo wards, engaging community members through surveys, focus group discussions, and interviews.

It highlights how entrenched gender roles shape decision-making, with men largely occupying leadership positions while women express strong aspirations for greater participation in governance and economic activities.

The report identifies key challenges including patriarchal norms, limited access to resources, and barriers faced by women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Farming is the dominant livelihood, yet inequalities persist in land ownership and opportunities.

The findings emphasise the need for gender-integrated empowerment programmes, inclusive governance, and community-driven approaches to address social exclusion and strengthen resilience and sustainable development.
