Finding adaptation solutions to menstrual health risks induced by climate change through knowledge co-creation
Summary
This report, developed by SaciWaters, presents action research on menstrual and reproductive health risks in climate-affected communities in the Indian Sundarbans. It highlights how climate change, particularly water salinity and poor sanitation, exacerbates health challenges for women and girls, with 77% of surveyed women reporting related health issues.
Using a participatory action research approach supported by the ARA Micro-grant, the study centres community voices through surveys, workshops, and stakeholder engagement to co-create adaptation solutions. The findings emphasise the urgent need for gender-responsive, context-specific adaptation strategies that integrate water access, sanitation, healthcare, and awareness to build resilience.
