Diversity and restorative assessment of fragmented cloud forest ecosystem in Bopththalawa, Central Highlands of Sri Lanka
A presentation highlighting the Diversity and restorative assessment of fragmented cloud forest ecosystem in Bopththalawa; Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, conducted by EarthLanka, supported by the Adaptation Research Alliance Microgrants.
Summary
The cloud forest of Sri Lanka is shrinking by the day due to anthropogenic activities (encroachment, tree felling and burning forest for agriculture). A greater number of fauna and flora within this forest are threatened by the loss of their habitats and also due to the fragmentation of the forest.
These forests are the heart of all water sources of the country enriching over 103 rivers in Sri Lanka. This presentation identifies the various flora and fauna found in the forest over a period of two years and highlights the process of restoration.
