Summary
This report by PadUp Zimbabwe presents findings from a research project on how communities are coping with climate change through nature-based enterprises (NBEs). It shows that 83% of respondents expressed knowledge of NBEs, and 95% indicated that NBEs exist in their communities. The report describes NBEs as activities based on natural resources such as mats, firewood, carpentry, bricklaying, mopane worms, and fruit products. It also indicates that 93% of respondents have heard of climate change, and 74% reported being affected by its impacts.
The findings show that 96% of respondents believe NBEs contribute to diversifying household livelihood options and improving livelihoods. It also notes that 44% reported improvements in diet and 31% in access to education.
The report identifies key challenges including restricted market access, lack of finance, limited skills and knowledge, and limited access to technology. It further highlights that many respondents have not received sufficient training on climate change adaptation and require capacity building to strengthen NBEs and adaptation strategies.
