Marie Jürisoo

Senior Advisor to Secretariat

Marie Jürisoo is Centre Director of SEI Asia. She is also Deputy Director of SEI globally.

From 2018-2025, Marie was SEI’s Operations Director, with overall responsibility for SEI’s core funding agreement with Sida, institutional quality procedures including risk management and monitoring, evaluation, and learning. In the role, she worked extensively on all aspects of SEI management, including leading on overall efforts to strengthen SEI’s ability to meet the goals of the strategy.

Marie joined SEI in December 2008 and spent her first ten year in SEI as a researcher. As a social science researcher, she has worked on a range of climate, energy and development policy issues, written reports for European government and international donors. She has authored a handful of peer-reviewed journal articles and dozens of peer-reviewed reports.

While working for the Swedish Energy Agency in 2012-2013, Marie was a member of Sweden’s delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, working on market mechanisms and carbon trading schemes.

Marie holds a MSc (Asian Politics) from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a BSc (Chinese and Politics) from Stockholm University.
