Project: “Local urban planning of climate change adaptation in Chile”, workshop 3: Capacity strengthening

This presentation outlines a workshop on developing adaptation indicators to support climate risk-informed urban planning in Chile.

Summary

This presentation documents the third capacity-building workshop conducted as part of the project on local urban planning of climate change adaptation in Chile. The workshop, supported by the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) and implemented by ICLEI in collaboration with partner institutions, focused on the development and application of adaptation indicators to support local decision-making.

The session introduced methodologies for assessing climate risk through the interaction of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability, and emphasised the use of impact chains to understand urban climate risks such as heatwaves and urban heat islands. It also highlighted the importance of participatory processes in defining and validating adaptation indicators, as well as the role of continuous monitoring and governance in ensuring effective implementation.
