Introduction
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change defines transformational adaptation as adaptation action that results in significant changes in structure or function that go beyond adjusting existing practices, or deep systemic change that requires reconfiguration of social and ecological systems.
What could be more transformational than empowering vulnerable communities to decide how investments in their name should be used?
This Masterclass is a structured learning experience to help you translate the eight Principles of Locally Led Adaptation into practical tools and approaches for real-world use. It has been developed by the Global Center on Adaptation in partnership with the International Institute for Environment and Development.

Structure of the Masterclass
The Masterclass has nine modules—an introduction, followed by modules on each of the eight LLA Principles. The modules are: Devolve decision making; Address structural inequalities; Patient and predictable funding; Investing in local capabilities; Building understanding; Flexible programming and learning; Transparency and Accountability; Collaborative action and Investment and finally Conclusion.
The modules cover global good practices, key challenges, and case studies through short videos, case studies, reflection exercises, and quizzes.
