ActionAid Myanmar

ActionAid Myanmar is a leading feminist organization working towards social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication, operating in Myanmar since 2006. The organisation has a strong commitment to the empowerment and leadership of women and youth through community-led, participatory development processes that influence policies nationally and internationally.

ActionAid Myanmar is part of the global ActionAid International network, working to advance social justice, gender equality, and climate resilience across Myanmar. Rooted in a human rights–based approach, the organisation partners with communities to address the structural causes of poverty, exclusion, and vulnerability.

ActionAid Myanmar focuses on locally led development, supporting women, young people, and marginalised groups to strengthen their voice, agency, and leadership. Its work spans rural and urban areas, including regions affected by conflict, displacement, and climate-related risks.

Key areas of work include:

  • Women’s rights and gender justice – promoting leadership, tackling gender-based violence, and advancing equality
  • Climate resilience and disaster preparedness – supporting communities to adapt to climate impacts and reduce risks
  • Livelihoods and economic empowerment – strengthening sustainable income opportunities
  • Governance and civic participation – enabling communities to engage in decision-making and hold institutions accountable
  • Humanitarian response – providing support during crises and building long-term resilience

The organisation works closely with local partners, civil society organisations, and community groups, ensuring that programmes are grounded in local knowledge and priorities.

Through solidarity, partnership, and action, ActionAid Myanmar seeks to build a more just, inclusive, and resilient society, where all people can claim their rights and shape their own futures.
