Alliance of Bioversity International (CIAT)
Alliance of Bioversity International (CIAT) was established to coordinate an international plant genetic resources program, including emergency collecting missions, and building and expanding national, regional and international genebanks. It is a global organization building on their complementary mandates and long collaboration, to respond to today’s global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and malnutrition.
Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is a global research-for-development organisation working to transform food systems, agriculture, and landscapes to be more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
Formed through the partnership of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Alliance combines scientific excellence with on-the-ground partnerships to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity.
The organisation works across:
- Climate change adaptation and mitigation in agriculture
- Biodiversity conservation and sustainable use
- Sustainable food systems and nutrition
- Agri-food innovation and data-driven solutions
- Policy engagement and capacity development
By integrating research, innovation, and collaboration, the Alliance supports farmers, governments, and partners to develop solutions that improve livelihoods, protect ecosystems, and ensure healthy diets.
Through its work, the Alliance contributes to global efforts to build climate-resilient, nature-positive, and equitable food systems.
