Feedback on adaptation actions for the Global Stocktake (GST)

The ARA will be putting in another submission to the UNFCCC Global Stocktake in mid-August and would like to invite all our members to be part of the process!

Dear ARA community,

We are proud of the work done by the ARA to engage in UNFCCC processes. Notably, we brought voices from the ground on adaptation in a submission to the Global Stocktake (GST), which received praise at COP27.

The ARA will be putting in another submission to the UNFCCC Global Stocktake in mid-August and would like to invite all our members to be part of the process!

The submission will summarise key adaptation actions against a number of relevant dimensions including timing, actors involved, planning process, means of implementation needed, challenges, socio-economic benefits, and indicators to measure them. These will be in line with IPCC WGII sectors.

We are holding two sessions on 2 August to share the thinking behind the submission at 9am and 3pm (GMT+2). You can join one of these sessions by registering via this link.

The submission now takes the format of a large table, to match a similar exercise on mitigation actions. The table will be accompanied by a short description of its aim and information sources.

We look forward to engaging with you on this important submission. In particular we would welcome your feedback on any inaccuracies and corrections to be made by 3 August.

– Jesse DeMaria-Kinney, ARA, Head of Secretariat & Saskia Werners, UNU-EHS (contact for the draft submission)

About the draft submission: The seven overarching themes match the IPCC Sectors (Chapter 2-8 of IPCC WGII report). The actions are largely based on Figure SPM.4 and TS.11 WGII. The submission aims to be indicative, not comprehensive on adaptation. Sources used: Firstly, IPCC WGII Chapter 2-8, complemented by selected submissions to the Global Stocktake, in particular of international organisations and key players for particular themes / sectors [e.g. FAO, UNDRR, UNEP, Adaptation Committee]
