On behalf of the Adaptation Research Alliance, the ARA Secretariat and Co-chairs would like to share how deeply saddened we are by the tragic loss of Ndoni Mcunu on Saturday, 16 April 2022.
Ndoni, Black Women in Science (BWIS) founder, climate scientist and PhD candidate, played a key role in Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) development team and Secretariat from January 2021 until March 2022.
Ndoni was a courageous and resilient team member, who rose to each challenge that came her way with integrity and grit.
Whilst with the ARA, Ndoni was a charismatic host of many of our public outreach events, and never failed to bring authenticity, openness, and empathy to her interactions with the ARA community and stakeholders. She was a passionate advocate for tackling climate change, agricultural development, and women’s rights, and a highly engaging and inspirational public speaker. Her ability to inject spirit and life into the ARA Secretariat through her lively spirit, kindness, and team ethos will not be forgotten.
Her drive to make the world a better place as an advocate, colleague, and friend has made a huge impression on all of us in the alliance, and we are devastated that the life of such a pivotal role model and change maker has been tragically taken away.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences to her family. Rest in Peace Ndoni.
