The CBA conference series aims to bring together a community of practitioners who are collectively seeking to reimagine solutions that enable transformative outcomes, through the agency of communities driving climate action.
CBA is a space for the adaptation community to share learning on community-based and locally led adaptation systems, and to explore how to put the principles for locally led adaptation (LLA) into practice, recognising the complexities, innovations and challenges that must be overcome.
ARA sessions on the agenda
- Heat Hacks: Building Community Resilience to Beat the Heat Together! with ARA Member Transitions Research
Heat is increasing everywhere, disproportionately impacting vulnerable communities, affecting the way of life with serious impacts on critical systems such as food, water, energy, and health. Solutions are needed today.
This session will engage local actors bringing perspectives of communities managing the heat challenges, and identify, explore, and share actionable steps, however small, towards building heat resilient and sustainable communities.
Date & time: 6 May 2024, 12:30 - 14:15 (SAST).
- Navigating the boundaries of research methods and place-based knowledge systems with University College London (UCL)
Navigating the complexities of research tools and methodologies poses a significant challenge for early career researchers, especially in varied social environments where a limited understanding may hinder the impact of findings. In our interactive session, we'll delve into implementing both innovative scientific and community-driven methods for tackling pressing climate change adaptation issues. We'll discuss how integrating scientific and local knowledge can enrich research, moving beyond traditional Eurocentric views.
This open forum invites participants to share experiences and innovative ideas, enhancing our research approaches to better support scaling up finance for locally-led adaptation (LLA). Join us for a dynamic discussion that rethinks conventional wisdom and explores diverse knowledge types in climate change adaptation research, aiming for more effective and inclusive outcomes.
Date & time: 7 May 2024, 12:30 - 14:15 (SAST).
- Open Space proposal: Visionary Horizons: Envisioning the Unhindered Impact of Local Leadership Actions with ARA Member Transitions Research
This session will gather local leaders to share their vision on the full potential of LLA in short-term, medium-term, and long-term in their communities. Exploring the full potential of impact, we will then reflect on how well these impacts map with what is expected by funders and other stakeholders.
The session will adopt a conversation café format, followed by an open discussion. This is an Open Space session proposal, participants will be asked on Day 2 to choose which they plan to join. These are demand-led sessions and will go ahead depending on level of interest.
Date & time: 9 May 2024, 9:50 - 11:30 (SAST).
